Costumes required, not optional.

Similar to the Met Gala, the JDV carnival social has an annual theme. The theme is metaphorically your “north star” to guide you on your creative journey. This is your opportunity to design a fashionable interpretation of the theme that feels authentic to you. It is encouraged that you create an Avant Garde costume that serves festive and extravagant.

 Unlike when dressing up for a Halloween costume party, the JDV Social Club costume rules are completely different. At Halloween it is important to fully replicate who you are dressing up as so that you are identifiable as the character. But this is exactly the opposite, it is encouraged that you come dressed as festive fashionable art and not a carbon copy of someone else. 

Get creative and have fun with color, prints, sequins, sparkle and textures.

It’s Mardi Gras so we encourage more magical, dreamy and futuristic with less dark and spooky.

You do not have to take the theme literally, take whatever design elements from it that speak to you.

Quick Style Tips:

Do - wear some type of creative headpiece to complete the look.

Do - the MOST. Bring your main character energy.

Don’t - wear any denim, sweatsuits or purple/green/gold striped shirts, jackets, fuzzy boots, sparkly jackets or accessories.

Every year the JDV ladies put a lot of time and energy into crafting a unique and festive costume. We know you are fly as f*ck, so don’t be the one underdressed.
